We are present at:
Who can you help?
Parents returning to work following maternity leave or a longer career break. Employers who want to improve their engagement with working parents.
What problems do you solve?
We help parents plan smart career moves by helping you be prepared and feel confident to return to work after maternity leave or a longer career break, whether it be returning to your previous employer, retraining, starting your own business or finding a new role. When we’ve had time away from the workplace we can lose our professional identity and confidence, as well as trying to manage the additional pressures of childcare, juggling home life, guilt and finding work that fits with your family. You are not alone in this – we can help you plan, prepare and feel inspired to find work that works for you and your family. We do this through regular morning workshops and coaching sessions. We also work with employers in the West Midlands to help them engage better with working parents – whether it’s providing support around maternity leave, creating flexible working policies, managing returnship programmes and much more. These are all aimed at helping progressive employers attract, retain and develop more female employees to improve gender balance and close the gender pay gap. We want to see the end of gender barriers to achieving professional success.
What makes you unique?
Career-Mums co-founders, Sally and Nishi are two neighbours who got chatting one day about our experiences of being stay at home mums. We realised that we had complimentary professional backgrounds and that we shared similar experiences during our career breaks – loss of professional identity, a yearning to be productive and contribute towards something and a feeling of losing value and status. Along with this came a fall in confidence, self belief and depression. It felt almost impossible to find a job that fitted with our family responsibilities whilst being fulfilling and professionally challenging. We’d both had successful careers and knew the way we were feeling during our career breaks wasn’t right. We felt there was little support out there. We wanted to help women, like us, so we decided to do something about it. Using our years of experience in HR and coaching, we offer women a better opportunity to re-enter the work place with confidence.
